Newer House, Paranormal Events Increasing Lately
November 4, 2009 (via our website contact form)

Question: We're not sure what's going on in our house.  This house was built in 1997 and I moved into it
new.  Over the past few years odd things have happened, unexplainable but nothing big enough to really
worry about.  Then about a year ago things really started cranking up.  Things moved around, banging in
the middle of the night, etc...  This week we've experienced a lot more than just that.  We laid in bed one
night for hours listening to what sounded like shuffling beside the bed or clothes moving around on the floor.
We heard knocking noises and whispering.  The next night I listened to what sounded like a really old radio
playing sixties music.  It went on for at least an  hour.  It was so faint and sounded so far away that we had
to really concentrate to hear it.  The same night I heard a pop and saw a flash of light in a reflection in the
picture on the wall beside the bed.  Does any of this sound strange to you?  Or are we both completely out
of our minds?

We've thought about doing a ouija board or burning sage but I don't know that either of those things are
worth the time.

Answer: Thanks for trusting CPI with your questions.  So, where to begin....

All right, let's consider history.  Usually when a place is haunted, there is some sort of history involved with
the location that would cause the spirits to be in place.  It sounds like the house is pretty new, so did
something unusual (i.e. traumatic or violent) happen there at some point?  Consider the root cause of why
a spirit would be on site.

So, regardless of history, you are clearly experiencing something.  As you've been to our website you know
we try to come up with normal explanations before we call events paranormal.  You mentioned an event or
two occurring while you were in bed.  Is it possible some of the sights or sounds were carry-over from
starting to doze off or coming out of a dream?  It is not unusual for us to carry over dream-events, including
sounds & smells, for a few seconds upon waking up.  If you're positive you were not asleep, or others have
experienced the same event on/around the same time, it starts getting exciting.  Perhaps try a
"mini-investigation" on your own.  Get a digital voice recorder and simply start asking the spirit questions,
giving time for answers.  After the session, play back your recording (usually with some sort of earphones
on) and see if you get anything.  It's a start.

Regarding sage & ouija board, the jury is out on that.  The idea of sage chasing off spirits has existed for a
long time.  Beth is not opposed to it and is somewhat warm to the idea, I personally am not a proponent but
for no other reason that I'm not sure why it would work....Especially if the spirit enjoys sage!  Beth & I are
both split on the Ouija board as well, she STRONGLY discourages the use of a Ouija board (as do many
big-name paranormal investigators).  I, on the other hand, think the Ouija board is a toy and your luck would
be just as good using a Monopoly board.  Perhaps you should err on the side of caution and stay away
from that option.

You seem to have some things going on and email is sometimes a tough way to flesh it all out.  Try some
EVP work as I mentioned above and if you are still not completely comfortable feel free to follow up with us
via email or phone call.  If you feel you might need a team in we can certainly help you with that as well.

Thanks, again, for contacting us with your concern.
