My Restaurant Is Haunted by the Spirits of My Husband and Son
October 4, 2009 (via our website contact form)
Question: I own a restaurant in L*, Michigan. I have been here for 17 years in the past 1 1/2 years I have
had 3 employees die. My current living employees feel the presence of someone here. There are strange
things happening we cannot explain. A figure is seen standing in a completely locked entrance way with a
hoodie on in the early hours of the morning. That night a few other businesses were broken into ours was
not. The lottery machine prints tickets on its own with no one any where near it. Doors open and close as if
someone is coming in and there is no one there.
In addition to death of the employees, one of them was my son who was the main chef for us. It has been
one year since his passing. His 5 & 6 year old daughters say he is a firefly and speaks to them. Many
things happen in the house they live in also. The 5 year old has been found sitting up in her sleep as if
someone is holding her. She has called to her mother in the middle of the night that the ghost is there.
There is another spirit with me in addition to my son. My husband committed suicide in my home
In my house as I lay sleeping can feel a hand in mine I open my eyes without moving squeeze my hand and
feel a hand in mine. There is a dent in the edge of the bed as if someone is sitting there.
The closet door opens on its own I keep closing it only to find it open in the morning. I leave a light on in the
garage furnace room on purpose some mornings I wake it is out. When I try turning it back on its not the
switch. The bulb has been just lightly unscrewed so it goes off.
It is my personal opinion that these spirits are still with me in both places my home and my business.
What should I do?
Answer: Thanks so much for visiting our site. Wow, you have a lot going on and it does sound like you
have the perfect environment for spirit activity.
As for your question - what should I do? Well, that depends on this is affecting you.
Firstly, I would suggest that you investigate a little when some of these events occur. We have seen a lot of
clients assuming things are paranormal when they get into a mindset after experiencing unnerving events.
That isn't to say that things like light bulbs coming unscrewed aren't spirits...but it could just be a bad socket
or a loose bulb!
You might try actually speaking to the spirits, especially if you believe them to be your husband or son. If
you have an audio recorder (or can borrow one), take some quiet time and ask some questions with no
noise or distractions. Wait 5-10 seconds between questions in case there is a response. You could also try
taking pictures, but be wary of anything that looks like a ball of light (just dust!). Sounds and smells are
actually much more common than visual manifestations.
You may want to try having an investigation. Legitimate paranormal investigation groups are scientific and
do not charge a fee, so you might try to find a good one for a formal investigation.
On a more emotional, psychological side...hauntings are very, very rarely any danger. You are master of the
physical world and although paranormal activity is very unnerving, it isn't harmful physically (especially if a
loved one). However, it can be emotionally draining. If you aren't comfortable with this activity - and don't
feel guilty if you ARE uncomfortable, it is perfectly okay - then talk directly to the spirits and ask them to
move onto the light. As a wife and mother, you may not like the idea that your loved ones would stick
around and not 'go to the light.' If talking to them doesn't work, you can try a house blessing or maybe a
medium to better contact the entities.
If you are not looking to get rid of the ghosts, then that's okay too! Many people learn to live with them and it
may even attract some folks to your restaurant. Even if you decide to leave them alone, it is okay to tell
them when you are displeased...to stop doing things that startle you, etc.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can help with. I have a special affinity for the psychological
effects of hauntings because all too often, the emotional issues are more difficult to deal with than the
events themselves.
