Unexplained smell...could be paranormal?
September 5, 2009 (via our website contact form) - see related question on Antiseptic Smell

Question: In the last 2 years I frequently have this problem ... when I go to my girlfriend's home, and after
10 -15 minutes, before the door of the living room appears a bad smell, not very strong, but very persistent.
This smell is isolated, it does not disappear and does not spread to the rest of the room if you open the
windows. It just stays in the same place, at about one meter over the floor (under this zone you cannot smell
this odor!!!) it is like a sphere of odor... after I leave, the odor disappears in 10-15 minutes. This smell
appear only when I go there... and it's not from me (for a while I was making jokes about this, sayin' that I
smell.. but now I'm really wondering...)What can I believe? I have no logical explanation for this and I don't
think I'm crazy, I am not the only one who can smell this odor...  The room is very clean, it cannot be a smell
of something from the room... I'll appreciate an email answer.. Thanks in advance.

Answer: Thanks for contacting CPI!  This is Sean.

Though it is often reported that smells can be associated with a haunting, usually the smell is associated
with the spirit.  For instance, someone who was known to love roses might produce the smell of roses
when manifesting.  If this smell is hard to define, it will be tough associating what spirit (if any) may be
manifesting.

Quite frankly, due to the persistence of the smell, Beth & I really believe this is a normal smell coming from
something in the house.  The smell associated with a haunting comes and goes for short periods, it would
not be in the location at all times.  We strongly urge you to dig a little deeper into the issue...Could
something be trapped in the walls in the area?  Could something have been spilled on the floor and is
giving off the smell?

Remember to investigate all normal possibilities and once you can rule everything else out, we can
consider the paranormal.

Thanks, again, for contacting CPI and feel free to follow up if needed.
